Harris Lake County Park offers a variety of program options for members of the public, groups, camps and major events focused on the natural, cultural and recreational opportunities of Wake County.

Public Programs
Harris Lake County Park offers a variety of staff or volunteer-led learning opportunities on topics of interest in environmental education, natural resources, cultural history and recreational activities for both families and individuals of varying ages. Our popular Family Programs are designed for families to enjoy together. The parent/child story times for toddlers introduce young children to nature, our drop off programs for older kids allow them to discover nature at a higher level, and we offer adult education workshops, as well. All programs require preregistration through our online system.
Group Programs
Organized groups (public, private and homeschool classes, Scouts, 4-H, Y-guides, camps, and other organizations) are encouraged to request one of our environmental education programs during their park visit. Some of our group programs are also available as outreach to the group’s location. All group programs must be requested at least one month in advance and are specific to the Piedmont region of NC.
Camps
Harris Lake County Park hosts several age-specific day camps during the summer or spring break. Campers will discover natural wonders while exploring the park on foot, by wagon or, for older ages, in a canoe. Other activities may include fishing, wildlife programs, pond study or themed games and crafts. Children bring their own snack and lunch.
Major Events
Each year, Harris Lake County Park hosts two special events: Longleaf Celebration in May and Harris Spook-tacular (formerly Haunting at Harris) in October. These free, family-friendly events are monthlong celebrations which offer in-person and virtual programming throughout the month, a themed StoryWalk®, and a mini event on a select weekend day each month. The mini events feature educational exhibits, live animals, games, crafts and more.
