Harris Lake County Park welcomes all visitors and affirms its commitment to offering programs and services that are accessible to everyone. We will make every effort to ensure that visitors of all abilities are fully included in all our programs and facilities.
Visitors Who Are Blind or Partially Sighted
Harris Lake County Park currently offers three different interpretive cell phone tours. Recorded audio versions are available for each tour.

Visitors on the Autism Spectrum
We welcome families with children and adults on the autism spectrum. The following resources will help you plan for an enjoyable visit.
Harris Lake County Park is a 680-acre site located on a peninsula on Harris Lake with lots of wooded areas, playgrounds, picnic areas, a historic homesite and many recreational activities with different opportunities to learn about and engage with Wake County’s natural areas and wildlife. Preparing for your visit a few days beforehand can make for a more manageable and enjoyable experience.

"My Harris Lake" Visual Schedule: Download, print and complete the "My Harris Lake" Visual Schedule before visiting the park. It includes a make-your-own visual checklist with location and communication cards to prepare and plan for your visit.

"My Harris Lake" Park Pack: This pack is available to borrow and check out at our Park Office. Our office does not have set hours, so please call us at 919-387-4342 to make sure a staff member is available. Stop by the Park Office before you begin your visit to check out the kit, which includes a customizable visual schedule, park brochure, sensory-seeking toys, noise-reducing headphones and suggestions for planning a successful visit.

Noise-reducing headphones and various sensory-seeking toys are available to borrow any time during our operating hours on a first-come, first-served basis. These items can be checked out from the Park Office. Our office does not have set hours, so please call us at 919-387-4342 before you come to make sure a staff member is available to loan them to you.

Visitors of Different Physical Abilities
Harris Lake County Park is an ADA-accessible location. The parking lots and paved paths leading to picnic shelters and the restrooms meet ADA criteria. Each picnic shelter contains wheelchair-accessible tables, with designated accessible parking spaces. Our fishing pier and picnic table locations in the lakeside picnic area are wheelchair accessible. The pathways within our traditional playground are designed for wheelchair use.
We provide fishing equipment for fishermen with limited mobility. We have two closed-faced, battery-powered spinning reels intended for one-handed use. Call 919-387-4342 for further information and to borrow this equipment during your visit.

Birding is for everybody. That's why Harris Lake County Park is proud to be a recognized location by Birdability, in collaboration with the National Audubon Society. Check out the Birdability website for more information and see our site location here.
