Wake County Public Libraries and WakeMed Health & Hospitals are partnering on a new program to provide parents and caregivers with tangible tips to keep kids safe, healthy and happy. Parenting with the Pros, a three-part, virtual series, kicks off in May.
“We are excited to collaborate with WakeMed to provide this important programming,” said Wake County Commissioner Vickie Adamson. “By tapping into the expertise of our partners, we can provide our community with access to invaluable resources and support.”
Attendees will hear from expert medical professionals on top-of-mind topics like mental health and sports safety. The program aims to help empower people with the knowledge they need to support the well-being of their teens and children.

Teen Mental Health
Thursday, May 9
6:30–7:45 p.m.
Hear from Tyrone David, MSW, LCSW-A, on how to identify signs of depression and anxiety and how to recognize and address drug and alcohol use. He’ll discuss warning signs of suicidal thoughts, and why sleep and good nutrition are vital for the health of your teen.
Playing it Safe with Outdoor Adventures
Tuesday, June 4
6:30–7:45 p.m.
Keep your family happy and healthy this summer with tips from Dr. Damilola Joseph, MD FACEP, medical director of WakeMed Children’s Emergency Department. Whether your kids are into swimming, biking, skateboarding or hiking, you’ll learn how to encourage fun in the sun with an eye toward safety.
Sports Safety
Tuesday, July 9
6:30–7:45 p.m.
Learn tips and tricks to help keep your teen safe while they achieve their sports goals! Join Dr. Mark Wood, orthopedic sports medicine surgeon from Wake Orthopedics, a WakeMed Physician Practice, for guidance and a Q&A session to help make your child’s sports experience a fun and safe one. No matter the sport, you will gain tools to help you along the way.
