Jointly operated station will help meet the needs of a growing area
[Joint release with Town of Garner]
Wake County and the Town of Garner will celebrate the opening of Caddy Road Public Safety Station at a ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 27.
The 18,534-square-foot facility, located at 7816 Caddy Road in Garner, houses Garner Fire-Rescue, Garner Police Department and Wake County Emergency Medical Services.
“Part of what makes Wake County a great place to live, work and play is the peace of mind provided by our first responders,” said Wake County Board of Commissioners Chair Shinica Thomas. “While we can’t put a price tag on their dedication and courage, we can work together with our municipal partners to provide them with very best equipment and facilities.”
The project is an important investment in first responders serving the Garner area. The building’s separate gear storage space and decontamination rooms are part of ongoing firefighter cancer prevention efforts, and the state-of-the-art gym and living quarters prioritize health and wellness for all first responders.
“The Caddy Road Public Safety Station is a perfect example of Town and County cooperation,” said Town of Garner Mayor Buddy Gupton. “This will be the base for our key first responders – Wake County EMS, Garner Fire Rescue and Garner Police – who serve the fast-growing area near U.S. 401 and Ten-Ten Road. The people of Garner salute the hard-working team members of Wake County Government and the Town of Garner who made this a reality."
Like many areas of Wake County, the Town of Garner has been experiencing unprecedented growth. Major developments occurring near the new station make the location at Caddy Road optimal for serving both longtime and new residents. Garner Fire-Rescue estimates that the new station will respond to up to 1,000 calls in its first year.
Wake County contributed $3.58 million to the station’s overall cost of over $10 million. The Town’s portion of the cost was covered by general obligation bonds approved by Garner voters in November 2021.
