What better way to honor National Rescue Dog Day throughout the whole month of May than by welcoming a new furry friend into your life from the Wake County Animal Center? To mark this special occasion, the Wake County Animal Center is launching a special adoption campaign throughout the month of May, waiving the fees for dogs that have been in the Center for more than two weeks.

"Rescue dogs are truly remarkable companions," said Wake County Commissioner Vickie Adamson. "They overcome extreme obstacles and demonstrate incredible resilience. Not only do they make wonderful family pets, but they also bring immense joy to their adoptive families. We invite the community to visit our center and consider adopting one of these amazing animals."

The Wake County Animal Center currently has 81 dogs, three cats and two guinea pigs available for adoption. Among them, 50 dogs have been at the center for more than two weeks, making them eligible for the special adoption fee of $0. Regular adoption fees are $95 for dogs, $45 for cats under five years old and $15 for older cats. All adopted pets from the Wake County Animal Center are fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered and microchipped before going home.

National Rescue Dog Day is observed annually on May 20 and aims to bring awareness to the countless number of amazing dogs in shelters around the country who deserve a second chance at a forever home.
