Pride Events at Wake County Public Libraries

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) Pride Month, a time to honor the contributions and celebrate the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community. Wake County Public Libraries are excited to share a variety of events and resources to commemorate this special month. From curated booklists to engaging virtual events, there are numerous ways to join in the celebration.

Curated Booklists to Celebrate Pride Month

WCPL has created several booklists to highlight LGBTQIA+ authors and stories. These collections offer a mix of fiction and non-fiction that explore sexual identity, gender politics and the diverse experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community. Here are some featured lists:

Celebrate Pride Month 2024
This booklist includes both fiction and non-fiction books by and about LGBTQIA+ individuals, showcasing their creativity and contributions.

LGBTQIA+ Reads
A diverse selection of books touching on various LGBTQIA+ experiences, focusing on characters' perspectives on gender identity and sexual orientation.

LGBTQIA+ Romance 
Romantic stories featuring LGBTQIA+ couples, ranging from sweet to spicy, ensuring a happily-ever-after ending. Full booklist here.

Events

Wake County Public Libraries has organized two engaging virtual events to celebrate Pride Month:

Romancing the Rainbow
Wednesday, June 12, 2024
6:30-7:30 p.m.

Celebrate LGBTQIA+ love stories with acclaimed queer romance authors Alyssa Cole, Dominic Lim, Cat Sebastian and Rebekah Weatherspoon. Tara Scott, host of the Queerly Recommended podcast, will moderate a panel discussion on diversity, representation and identity in LGBTQIA+ romance novels. Register for access on the event page.

In Conversation with Serena Kaylor
Tuesday, June 18, 2024
6:30-7:30 p.m.

Join the celebration of the launch of Serena Kaylor’s latest YA novel, "The Calculation of You and Me". Serena will be joined by Mazey Eddings, author of "Tilly in Technicolor", to discuss the importance of neurodiverse and LGBTQIA+ characters in literature. Register for access on the event page.
