Missed this afternoon’s Wake County Board of Commissioners meeting? Here are the highlights:

The commissioners voted to appropriate $425,000 from the State of North Carolina’s Parks and Recreation Trust Fund for construction of Beech Bluff County Park! We've obtained permits for the project and anticipate bidding the project this month.
In more good news for Wake County Parks and Open Spaces, the board approved using funds from the 2018 Parks, Greenways, Recreation and Open Space bond to help preserve a 200-year-old working sheep farm in Zebulon. The 86-acre Lazy J Ranch contains more than 3,500 feet of streams and forest land.
Commissioners voted to raise the pay for 327 Wake County EMS employees as part of a new market pay structure to help retain our great team and attract new members. The raises range from 1% to 29%, with an average increase of 21%. This will make Wake EMS a leader in pay in NC! Learn more at ow.ly/PNMX50IoA6A.
During the public comment period, Elizabeth Doran, president and CEO of the North Carolina Theater, thanked the commissioners for providing the organization with an Elevate Wake grant funded via American Rescue Plan Act! It will enable the group to accelerate inclusion in the arts.
Expanding broadband access is a priority for the Wake County Board of Commissioners. Today, they voted to partner with three internet service providers to compete for state grants to reach unserved communities. The county will commit a total of $500,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds to the ISPs to support their applications.
Finally, Commissioner Vickie Adamson reminded her fellow commissioners that they’re meeting tomorrow night with the WCPSS Board of Education to begin budget discussions for Fiscal Year 2023.
