Missed Monday's Wake County Board of Commissioners meeting? Here are the highlights:
First up, the board proclaimed February 2022 as Black History Month. The proclamation urges us all to celebrate the contributions of African Americans to the health and wellness of our county, to reflect on the complex history of our nation, and to embrace diversity and Black Excellence.
The board also proclaimed February 2022 as American Heart Month to raise awareness about improving cardiovascular heath. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women and men in the U.S. and the second leading cause of death in Wake County. Do something good for your ticker today! ♥🧡💛💚💙💜
Next, #WakeBOC voted to provide a total of $4.7 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds to eight local organizations, including InterAct and The Green Chair Project, which offer support services to people experiencing homelessness. The goal is to help them move more quickly to stable, permanent housing.
Finally, the board took steps forward on 2️⃣ important housing issues: The 2022 Annual Action Plan and funding the Bridge to Home program. Both will address the affordable housing, homeless services and community development needs in our community. Learn more at ow.ly/l98N50HORZ1.
