Applications for $1,000 awards open now through Feb. 2
Wake County college undergrads and high school seniors passionate about careers conserving nature resources, like wildlife management, marine biology or environmental science, are invited to apply for the 2024–2025 Careers in Conservation Scholarship. This merit-based scholarship, awarding $1,000 per student per school year, is offered by NC Foundation for Soil & Water Conservation.
“This scholarship helps students learn about natural resource management and encourages them to work on important environmental issues,” said Wake County Commissioner Donald Mial. "It's an investment in both the students' futures and the sustainable future of our community."
To apply students should:
- Be a North Carolina resident
- Be a current student or plan to attend a North Carolina college
- Demonstrate academic excellence in high school or undergraduate studies
Applicants should:
- Showcase superior academic achievements, extracurricular activities and honors.
- Display a clear commitment to a Bachelor of Science degree in natural resource management or closely related fields.
- Have completed at least 50% of the required college degree credit hours.
- Submit three letters of recommendation, with one from their local Soil and Water Conservation District strongly encouraged.
- College students must provide an official transcript of all college courses completed by December 31, 2023.
- High school transcripts are acceptable if the student has not completed a semester of college by December 31, 2023.

Deadlines must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2024.
