Wake County libraries offer 50+ ways to make it a December to remember

Special programs and events for kids to adults

Wake County Public Libraries invites residents of all ages to embrace the holiday spirit with more than 50 festive winter events. From cozy storytimes and creative workshops to seasonal gatherings and a visit from Santa himself, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at libraries across the county.

“This is a great time to come in and see all that our libraries have to offer,” said Shinica Thomas, chair, Wake County Board of Commissioners. “Our winter programming provides opportunities for kids, teens and adults to connect, create and celebrate during this special time of year.”

Here’s a glimpse of some of the events happening in December:

Young Children

  • Holiday Fake Bakes Playtime
    Dec. 16, 9:30–11 a.m.
    Middle Creek Community Library, Apex
    Bring your little ones for sensory fun with holiday-themed pretend baking activities.
  • Solstice Storytime
    Dec. 20, 10:30–11:15 a.m.
    Eva Perry Regional Library, Apex
    Cozy up for stories and songs that celebrate the magic of the winter solstice.
     

School-Age Kids

  • Penguins and Pinecones, Oh My!
    Dec. 7, 10:30–11:30 a.m.
    Oberlin Regional Library, Raleigh
    Dive into winter crafts and games inspired by the season.
  • Winter Workshop!
    Dec. 19, 4:30–6 p.m.
    Northeast Regional Library, Wake Forest
    Kids can create unique holiday crafts to take home at this hands-on experience.
     

Teens

  • Holiday Sugar Scrubs
    Dec. 1, 2–3 p.m. and 3–4 p.m.
    Green Road Community Library, Raleigh
    Teens and adults can bond while making delightful, gift-worthy sugar scrubs.
  • Teen Open House
    Dec. 5, 5:30–7:30 p.m.
    North Regional Library, Raleigh
    Explore the library and enjoy a festive evening filled with fun activities.

  • A Novel Idea: Holiday Gathering
    Dec. 4, 11 a.m.–noon
    Fuquay-Varina Community Library, Fuquay-Varina
    Celebrate the season with fellow book lovers at this special holiday edition of the library’s book club.
  • Craft It: Sock Gnome
    Dec. 6, 2–3 p.m.
    Richard B. Harrison Community Library, Raleigh
    Learn how to make an adorable sock gnome to decorate your home or gift to a friend.
     

All Ages

  • Polar Express Viewing Party + Santa
    Dec. 2, 6–8 p.m.
    Morrisville Community Library, Morrisville
    Enjoy a family-friendly movie and a visit from Santa Claus himself!
  • Tiny Trains, Big Adventures: An Intro to Garden Railways
    Dec. 9, 10:30–11:30 a.m.
    East Regional Library, Knightdale
    Discover the world of garden railways with a festive twist.
  • Paint It! Holiday Keepsakes
    Dec. 14, 2–4 p.m.
